Our house on a photo (at 1920) with the old brickyard
Pictures of our house before 1970
The area north of our house.
My home (since 1967). The family Hoffmann (including me) moved to the house Limburger Str. 63 on 01.04.1967. The fact that I only had to celebrate my 9th birthday between loud moving boxes three days later was the smallest problem. The house (built in 1903) can be seen in the picture on the top left in its original state. Source: www.lagis-hessen.de. At the time of our move, the brickyard occupied a concrete plant. There the concrete transporters with the big drum were filled with concrete. This was followed by a window factory and about 25 years ago (1993) a supermarket. Our house was originally designed as a street keeper house. Therefore, the ground floor consisted almost entirely of garage and storage rooms. Habitable was only the first floor and a small room in the attic. When the house was sold after 3 years, my parents bought it. Then began the conversion and cultivation. There was a gas heating, new windows a new electrical installation (3wire), a garage next to the house and a balcony. Of course, the layout of the rooms was changed. In addition to an additional room in the attic was from the former garage on the ground floor our living room. However, my sisters gradually moved out of the house. The garden was the main field of activity of my father. In addition to the different flowers also salad, vegetables and potatoes were grown. About 1974, I moved into a room in the attic. Due to the distance to the ground floor I was able to hear music or "learn"  even later in the evening without danger. On the opposite side of the gable I have set up a "working room" in the free former room of my sisters. There I could tinker nicely then if you left me. This two-room apartment I kept until 01.12.1983. Then I lived for 8 weeks in Frankfurt and then in Darmstadt. Of course I had to work hard for food and lodging. It was such beautiful work as car washing (from daddy), sweeping the street, vacuuming, mowing the lawn, fetching food for our rabbits and quite a few rather insignificant works. Therefore, I had to keep everything from my apprentice pay (305 DM gross in 1974). That's what I call generous. The picture below on the left shows the area in the northern hemisphere. Most of the buildings did not exist in 1970 yet. Therefore, we (my neighbor and I) had unrestricted access to a sleigh slope. Today, the slope is called Konrad-Adenauer-Straße with the houses to the left and right of the street. To my knowledge, the whole area in 1995 was still a development area. However, the supermarket in the neighborhood is quite good. It takes about 4 minutes to walk to the market. It can take twice as long by car. The problem with shopping affected us in 1967 earlier. In the Schulgasse in Weilburg there were several smaller shops (butchers, bakers, food market). In Limburger Straße, my mother and I used to go to Waldhausen in Westerwaldstraße more often. fairly big supermarket there. For the bulk purchase on Saturday went to Limburg in a particularly large shopping market. A building "An der Backstania" has already been put to another use. The former telecommunications office of the German Federal Post is called today Cuba Camii (mosque). The building was also remodeled beautifully from the outside. Most pictures in the picture gallery are older and were made by my dad.
